Source of data & AI

Plain English: where every number comes from, how we pick orders, and where AI is (and isn't) used.

Nutrition numbers come from the restaurants themselves

Every calorie and macro figure in MenuFuel is copied from the chain's own published nutrition information: their nutrition calculator, menu pages or nutrition PDF. We don't estimate numbers and we don't copy third-party nutrition databases. Each chain below links to the exact source we used and the date we last checked it.

Restaurants change recipes and portions, and branches can differ. If something looks wrong, check the chain's own source and tell us.

How recommendations are calculated

Your daily target comes from standard maths (the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, your activity level and your goal), with a minimum calorie floor so we never suggest crash-diet numbers. Each meal gets a share of that target.

For each restaurant, we score every sensible order (a main, a side, a drink, or every combination at build-your-own chains) against your meal target. Going over calories costs more than going under, and missing protein costs points. The score out of 100 you see on a meal is that fit. The same inputs always give the same answer.

Where AI is used

  • Not for numbers. No AI writes, guesses or rounds a nutrition figure.
  • Not for picking meals. Recommendations and the Ask tab's answers are calculated by the scoring above.
  • Food illustrations. The cartoon food stickers are our own drawings, made with an image model and based on the chain's official photo of that item so they look like the real thing. They are illustrations, not photos.

Logos and names

Restaurant names and logos belong to their owners and are shown only so you can recognise the restaurant. MenuFuel is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any restaurant.

Not medical advice

MenuFuel does not provide medical advice. It is general guidance for ordering when you eat out. If you have a medical condition, allergies, are pregnant or have a history of disordered eating, talk to a doctor or registered dietitian. Always check allergens with the restaurant.
